Hop Pho
One of the nine commanderies the Han set up on destroying Nam Viet, and one of the frontier posts from which the Han thu starts a sea road measured in months. On the expedition the Han sent south in 42, when Ma Yuan's army reached Hop Pho, the general Doan Chi fell ill and died.

Hop Pho is on the list of nine commanderies the Han set up on destroying Nam Viet, and it is still among the seven that the Han thu's treatise on geography places in the celestial field of the Viet. The same treatise uses it as a landmark twice. Going south into the sea from Hop Pho and Tu Van, one comes to a great island, a thousand li on each side, where the Han set up the two commanderies of Dam Nhi and Chu Nhai. And from the frontier posts of Nhat Nam, Tu Van and Hop Pho, a voyage of about five months reaches the country of Do Nguyen, the first stage of a sea road the book measures not in li, but in months.21
In the year forty, according to the Book of the Later Han, the Man and Ly peoples of Cuu Chan, Nhat Nam and Hop Pho all rose in answer to Trung Trac's revolt. Then Emperor Guangwu issued an edict to Truong Sa, Hop Pho and Giao Chi to make ready carts and boats, repair roads and bridges, clear the mountain streams and store up grain. Then, in the year 42, the Han sent a general south with an army; when Ma Yuan's army reached Hop Pho, Doan Chi, the General of the Tower Ships, fell ill and died; the emperor ordered Ma Yuan to take over his troops too, and from there the army advanced along the coast, following the mountainsides and cutting a road for more than a thousand li.345
